内容提要：
本书是图里教授继1980年出版著名的翻译理论专著《翻译理论探索》（In Search of a Theory of Translation）之后的又一力作。作者在本书中提出应把描述翻译学列入翻译研究的分支学科，并认为该分支学科具有理论和应用并重的双重属性。本书对方法论探讨的同时对不同类型的个案进行了深入的剖析，强调了上下文语境在翻译中的重要作用。
霍姆斯在1971年提出把描述翻译学作为翻译研究的一个分支，但是并未引起翻译界应有的重视。有些翻译研究者甚至故意贬低对具体翻译实践和翻译成果所作的描述性研究。作者在本书中力主在翻译学范围内建立基于方法论的翻译学分支学科，对翻译学作系统的描述，并探讨了建立这一分支学科所涉及的重要问题。 作者简介：
吉迪恩?图里，以色列特拉维夫大学（Tel Aviv University）专门从事翻译理论研究的教授，操纵学派的重要人物之一。主要著述有《翻译理论探索》（In Search of a Theory of Translation）、《描述翻译学及其他》（Descriptive Translation Studies and Beyond）两书以及多篇论文。
