内容提要:
STEPHEN CRANE was born on Novermber I,1871,the youngest of fourteen children in a Methodist Minister's family.His father died in 1880,and his mother raised her children alone.Crane began writing at the age of eight,and wrote articles for the New York Tribune when he was sixteen.He attended a preparatory school,Claverack College,from 1880 to 1890,and spent one semester at Syracuse University.
The Red Badge of Courage is a classic,but Crane's brilliant writing is also revealed in his short stories,such as "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky"and "The Blue Hotel,"or those found in The Open Boat and Other Tales of Adventure(1898),The Moster and Other Stories(1899),Whilomville Stories(1900),and Wounds in the Rain(1900).Crane was also a poet ahead of his time,writing vivid,unrhymed poems prophetically similar to many twentieth-century styles.These were published in The Black Riders(1895)and War Is Kind(1899). 目录:
