报刊英语：如何读英文报刊

    当前我们正致力于四个现代化建设，迫切需要了解世界各国政治、经济、文化和科学技术方面的新情况、新信息、新经验，了解有关新技术革命中的种种知识，以便不断充实自己和调整自己的步伐，卓有成效地从事自己的工作。为此越来越多的人需要阅读英美报刊。 但是英美报刊的用词造句，与其他方面的英文材料相比，有着许多差异，因而，读者在阅读英美报刊时一定会遇到不少困难。为满足广大读者阅读英文报刊的需要，我们把多年来在报刊英语教学中所积累的材料，加以整理、补充、注释，编成了本书，供广大英语自学者、涉外工作者、新闻宣传工作者学习之用，亦可供大专院校师生参考。 本书分两章：即英文报刊中的各类新闻报道和报刊英语的特点。 各类新闻报道分： 1）新闻类型（Story Type） 新闻类型是根据当代英美大报中出现的栏目，按新闻特点，分类介绍。每一新闻类型，以英文综述，再附中文译文。 2）新闻条目（News Items） 在各类新闻中，编入精选的该类新闻条目若干，以供读者阅读学习。这些新闻条目均选自当代英美报刊，或英美新闻学的范文，读者除以阅读到典型的新闻报道外，还可以学到新闻文体写作特点，学到大量报利用词汇。 3）注释（Notes） 对新闻条目中出现的新词、难句、作了注释，有些还提供该新闻的背景知识。 4）比较研究（Comparative Study） 在有些新闻条目后，提供一批与该类新闻有关的报刊词语，以扩大读者的词汇时。 本书还扼要地介绍了报刊英语的特点及其有关的各种知识，说明报刊英语的文章结构、句子结构、标题语法、广告用语等的特点。此外还附录了英美各主要报纸、报社、各主要通讯社，各种略词、缩写词。至于部分材料中，西方记者的立场、观点和倾向性，务请读者留意分析批判。

STORY TYPE
Briefs, sa the name indicates, are short items to be found in newspapers. Often they are used to facilitate makeup by filling in small spaces left after longer stories are placed on pages.
简讯（briefs），顾名思义，是报纸的简短新闻，常用来填补报上刊登的较长文章后空下的较小空白，以使版面完整。

The office of Internal Revenue Service has moved to the Federal Building at 101 Northshore Dr.
B. Date for Revival
The South Side Baptist Church will hold a revival at 7:30 p.m. June 16-22.
C. Deadline for Car Plates
Midnight tonight is the deadline for 1982 automobile license plates and vehicles in use after 12:00 a.m. tomorrow must carry 1983 plates, the Bureau of Motor vehicles reminded automobile owners yesterday.

1.Internal Revenue Service 国内税务局，在美国报刊上常以其缩写形式IRS出现。
2.101 Northshore Dr.北海岸车道101号。Dr. 是Drive的缩写，意为“车道”。
3.revival（宗教）福音布道会
4.7：30 p.m. 下午七时半。p.m. 为拉丁文post meridiem，略作p.m.或P.M.，也可些作pm或PM。意为after noon。同样，a.m.为拉丁文ante meridiem，略作a.m. 或A.M. 也可写成am或AM。
Personals
STORY TYPE
Personals, a type of news story, are short items on activities of various citizens as well as groups in a community. Often they are used as separate stories with individual headlines and scattered through the regular sections of the papers. They may also be used to fill whole columns, as on the family or women's pages.
人物消息（personals）是报道各种人物或团体活动的一种短讯，常常以单独标题出现，并分散刊登在报纸不同固定栏目的的空余部分。有时也可以象家庭或妇女栏一样，独占一个栏目。
