本题有关"few"和"many"、主语单复数与动词的搭配问题和可数名词的修饰问题。few=not many，虽然"few"在句子中可作代词，但通常不能如(a) we few那样作同位语，而应将其如文中那样用于“few of”结构之中；(b)hardly anybody中的“anybody"为单数形式，作主语时动词需用单数形式，而题中的动词“have”为复数动词，因此搭配有误；(c) Iittle people中的“little”为形容词，只能用于修饰不可数名词，而“people”则为复数名词；因而本题(d)not many为正确选项，也可将其视为not many Ofus的省略结构。
It was typicalof Bruce to announce‘ cheerfully’ that therewas no oil in the engine! For the rest of us, it was a disaster.We all got out and began shouting at him and then at eachother. What could we do? We were standing in the middle of avery large pool up to our ankles in water with a car that wasuseless.
We tried to push it, but of course it was absolutelyimpossible. All we managed to do was to push it deeper into thesoft mud. In the end we all walked to next village where wetried to get a taxi so that we could take some oil(and petrol)back to the car.
We couldn't find one driver who would take us over therough road. Fortunately there was a small garage and we paid alarge sum of money tO the garage owner to rent a jeep. With acan of oil and an extra can of petrol we all climbed in and setoff.
When we eventuallygot back to the pool, we attached arope from the jeep to the car and pulled the car out of thewater. Wewere not surprised to find that the engine was badlydamaged, and would not even start with the oil we had broughtback. Disaster again, but Broce was undisrnayed!
